Penny Turnbull

She is a member of The Court Cupboard Gallery, exhibiting locally and further afield, running workshops and participating in community arts projects.

Her primary interest is in collage and the layering of texture and colour to create an image. Favourite themes are landscapes and seascapes, as well as a long held fascination with myths and legends.

Penny uses textiles to create jewellery, sculptural pieces, bags and pictures. Her recent work involves the use of an embellisher to combine and fragment fabrics and colours in a painterly way to produce an interesting textural background to further develop with free-machine embroidery and hand stitching.

Under her "Emotional Baggage" label she creates bespoke commissioned bags to commemorate a special occasion, life, hobby or theme. They can include photographs, fabrics and objects and text that hold special memories. She also runs workshops to inspire others to create their own piece of “Emotional Baggage”.
