Caldicot Castle & Country Park

Caldicot's magnificent medieval castle is set in fifty-five acres of beautiful country park. The River Nedern winds its way through areas of woodland and pasture. Founded by the Normans, developed in royal hands as a stronghold in the Middle Ages and restored as a Victorian family home, the castle has a romantic and colourful history.

You can immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the castle's exciting past with an easy-to-use audio guide, available in English and Welsh. Explore the medieval towers and take in the breath-taking views from the battlements. Enjoy a leisurely game of chess or drafts, using giant playing pieces, or relax in the gardens and grounds.

The country park offers an ideal setting for picnics and walks against the background of the castle walls, with picnic tables and barbeques. The park contains a children's play area, orienteering course, toilets and free parking. A caravan rally site is available. There are information boards describing two circular "Footsteps to Fitness" walks around the castle and country park.

An active programme of events and activities runs throughout the year in the castle and country park.
