Blaenafon Community Heritage & Cordell Museum

A huge array of exhibits and stands will guide you through the fascinating history of the town from the early days of the industrial revolution through to the modern day World Heritage Site.

The centre holds and displays numerous items from local industrial archaeological artefacts, a huge collection of photographs and books, furniture, coins, military uniforms and much more. Take time to trace your own family history or just browse through the vast parish registers, burial and marriage records.

Whilst in Blaenafon why not take a walk around the town, using the Blaenafon Town Walk to guide you and sample the town's heritage first hand. Available from the Museum.

The Community Heritage and Cordell Museum has been established in order to ensure that the story of the people of Blaenafon has a place in the town's history. Most of the artefacts and treasures that are on display have been proudly donated by members of the community.

The refurbished building which is now home of the Community Heritage and Cordell Museum was originally the Town Hall of Blaenafon.

Alexander Cordell was one of Wales' most prolific writers who took his inspiration from the people and places of South Wales, and in particular the small town of Blaenafon.

He particularly loved this part of Wales where he lived for many years and wrote his best-selling novel Rape of the Fair Country.

Following Alexander's death, Torfaen County Borough Council acquired some of his personal writing effects, including his desk and typewriter. These are now on display in the Community Heritage and Cordell Museum.
