Llanyrafon Mill

An historical atttraction waiting to happen

If you like history you'll enjoy Llanyrafon Mill. There has been a water mill on the Llanyrafon site since at least 1632 and probably much earlier. The grade 2 listed mill, situated on the outskirts of Cwmbran, is to become a working tourist attraction and, while the mill awaits development, there is still plenty to see.
Free car parking is available and the site is accessible to the disabled.

Inside the large building, as well as the original machinery, there are displays of agricultural, historical and household items......the sort of things that make you say,"My Grandma had one of those ", or " I remember my Dad telling me about that".

We welcome all ages. Some of our visitors have been as old as 3 or as young as 95 !!! You can wander around at your leisure without any interruptions or one of the Friends of Llanyrafon Mill can answer any questions or give explanations if you need them.

The mill is very easy to get to.
1. From M4 Junction 25A take the A4042 towards Abergavenny for about 3 miles to Crown Roundabout ( signed large) then follow directions in paragraph 3.
2. From Junction 26 take the A4051 towards Cwmbran for about 2 miles. At the roundabout take the 3rd exit (A4042) towards Abergavenny for about 1 mile to Crown Roundabout (signed large) then follow directions in paragraph 3.
3. Take the 2nd exit (signed Cwmbran) then 4th right into Llanyrafon Way and turn left immediately onto a tarmac path which leads to a large car park with Llanyrafon Social Centre in front of you. The Mill is on your right.

As well as caring for the Mill since 1995, the Friends of Llanyrafon Mill meet once a month for social activities which, most of the times, are not of a historical nature !! Skittles, beetle drives, poems and pints, barbecues, fish and chip suppers....all good fun.

If you'd like to join The Friends you'd be very welcome. It costs £5 per year for family membership and £2.50 single membership.
