Blaentrothy Cottage

Beautiful 5 star cottages in Wales

Blaentrothy Cottage is a five star rated cottage set in Blaentrothy Meadows an important site for wildlife and plants, near Abergavenny and the Black Mountains. Situated on Blaentrothy Farm, an isolated C17th listed steading in glorious countryside, this beautifully converted 5-star luxury cottage is ideal for a couple (baby-friendly). Pets welcome too

Blaentrothy Cottage provides Five Star-graded luxury for two (plus an infant) in a peaceful setting, making it an ideal self-catering holiday cottage in Wales - great for honeymoons or romantic escapes. A perfect base for exploring the area, Blaentrothy Cottage is ideally situated for visiting the Abergavenny Food Festival, the Hay Literary Festival, sightseeing, walking and other outdoor pursuits, or simply to relax and enjoy the comforts of the cottage.

The upstairs former granary has been sympathetically converted to create a huge bedroom, with ancient oak beams, shuttered oak mullion windows, a luxury power shower and stylish roll-top bath. Quantities of towels, bath robes, good soap, bath foam, tissues and other helpful touches, provide a feeling of being properly looked after. Babies are very welcome in this baby-friendly self-catering cottage, and a travel cot, high chair, over-bath baby bath, steriliser and other useful baby-kit can all be provided. There is also a bidet - very useful for baby-bottom-washing. Blaentrothy Cottage is one of the farm buildings, which have been listed because the farm steading is beautifully unspoilt. Old photographs and drawings of the farm have revealed it as virtually unchanged. Between May and October, the surrounding 100 acres graze sheep and cows, as they have done for hundreds of years. Free stabling is provided if you would like to use the cottage as a base for a riding holiday.

The former cart shed or Wain House, now the ground floor, comprises the sitting and dining areas and the kitchen. The kitchen is very well-appointed, with a pink granite work surface, oak units, a fridge, a separate freezer, gas hob with electric oven, all the necessary mod cons and plenty of kitchen equipment for the enthusiastic cook. If cooking is not part of the plan, however, the owner will (with a bit of notice) provide home cooked ready-prepared meals left in the fridge with instructions on how to reheat etc. (Please ask for a menu.) Storecupboard essentials, such as tea, coffee, sugar, jam, salt and pepper, olive oil and vinegar are supplied, as are cleaning materials, so that you don’t have to overload your car with the basics. The sitting area has a large three-seater sofa, a leather armchair and plenty of cushions, and is very well equipped. Plenty of books, guide books, magazines, games, local maps and tourist information, as well as a TV with DVD-player, mean that the visitor can sit and spend time in front of the cosy wood-burning stove in winter or outside in summer on a sunlounger on the Blaentrothy Cottage lawn or at the Moroccan mosaic table on the slate-flagged terrace.

Once batteries have been recharged, there are plenty of excellent walks around the Blaentrothy Meadows on public footpaths as well as further afield: you can walk across the fields in under half an hour to the local pub, the Hunters Moon at Llangattock Lingoed. There are plenty of things to see and do in the area – castles, churches, country towns, markets, excellent restaurants (this area has been dubbed the Dordogne of Britain for good reason), outdoor pursuits (such as golf, riding, cycling, paragliding, climbing, pot-holing and huntin’/shootin’/fishin’), and wildlife reserves are plentiful. There is more about Blaentrothy Cottage on the Home page under the Featured Cottage section.
Please note that there is a 200m private track which should be approached with care in low-slung cars. Guests should take advice in bad weather.
