Gentle Jane B&B

Comfort and style in beautiful historic village

Gentle Jane is set at the very heart of Grosmont and offers rural quietude with real elegance and comfort. Though it boasts all modern facilities Gentle Jane's thoughtful restoration has retained all the considerable original charm of this 17th century house. Furniture and other artifacts from the Arts and Crafts period and Art Deco sit comfortably with contemporary furniture made locally to yield a stylish ambience.

All of Gentle Jane's three double bedrooms are located on the first floor and each has an en suite bathroom. They make a great base from which to tour, walk and cycle. Grosmont is on the Land's End to John O'Groats route

While the accommodation will coset and charm, after a restful night, the breakfast will delight you. Box farm eggs and Tudge's bacon and sausages are the backbone of the best full Welsh you will ever have. For a change try the Gentle Jane stack or herby potato cakes under a poached egg - to die for! Home baked bread and home made jam are the natural accompaniment to the wide range of loose leaf teas and gourmet coffee that are the pride of the house.

We are delighted to be able to say that Gentle Jane Tearoom was awarded Gold in the "Wales the True Taste" awards in 2010. While it is true that the award was for the tearoom, you may be sure that the same passion that got gold for the tearoom also inspires the creation of your breakfast!

Food is a big thing at Gentle Jane. We are dedicated to sourcing everything as locally as possible and to using ingredients that are fresh and seasonal in order to give you an exceptional taste experience - not just a taste of Wales but The Taste of Wales - tone that you will remember and want to come back for.

What could be better than to come back to our award winning tearoom after a day's activities and relax with a traditonal afternoon tea with delicious home made cakes?

On the day you arrive to stay at Gentle Jane we will be delighted to offer you a sample of Gentle Jane Tearoom's afternoon tea gratis if the tearoom is open.

Named after the daughter of one of its previous owners in the 1920's, Gentle Jane is a grade II listed building in the ancient Monmouthshire village of Grosmont on the border with England. It has a history of use as a milliner's, grocer's, butcher's and a baker's premises before being used as a fishing lodge and a private dwelling. In 2004 it was a film set for 'The Baker' staring Damian Lewis and featuring Michael Gambon before opening at a Tearoom and B&B.

You might find it novel that boreholes at the front of the house supply ground source heat to the underfloor heating system that permits an uncluttered, radiator-free interior. It might not surprise you that the owners, Linda and Witek, are keen environmentalists and their business has a Green Dragon award as a testimony to its green credentials.
