People Mean Perfection for Local Hotel

A modern, independent hotel and conference centre welcoming guests, both local and international, the Beaufort Park Hotel has been tailoring packages to suit its customers' needs for over 25 years.

However, while the rooms, services and facilities are never anything less than impressive, it is the hotel's staff - totalling around 100 - that provides its greatest asset.

And those exceptional levels of people management, successful training and wonderfully low staff turnover were rewarded when the Beaufort Park Hotel was honoured with the People Development Award at the Flintshire Business Week Awards, which took place at Northop Country Park on Tuesday September 1.

"We're absolutely delighted to have won this award," beamed Sue Warnock, General Manager, "and all credit goes to all of my colleagues at the Beaufort Park Hotel. Our philosophy is that placing the wrong people in the wrong positions simply increases turnover, reduces productivity and affects overall morale. Training and development is key to getting this right, while we also encourage an 'all hand on deck' approach, particularly during busiy times."

It's an approach which has certainly worked at the Beaufort Park Hotel and, with the hotel scooping this award, you can be sure that more businesses around Flintshire Will be looking to follow the shining example.

An Adventure and a Career for Business Woman of the Year

When sue Warnock was awarded the Women into Business honour at the Flintshire Business Week Awards last month, few were more shocked than the General Manager of the Beaufort Park Hotel herself.

In spite of now being responsible for the whole 106-bedroom hotel, with staff of more than 100 and continuing to serve as Company Secretary for Best Northern Hotels , giving her financial and legal responsibility for a sister hotel in Carlisle, the award was the highlight of a 26-year career tht gives hope to all budding business people willing to learn, work hard and take advantage of opportunities.

Having left school at the age of 16 with six CSE qualifications, Sue began work at the Beaufort Park Hotel as a part-time barmaid following the birth of her son. She was quickly promoted into Reception and, showing a flair for the role, moved into the Accounts Department a few years later.

Taking on and devouring any challenge that she faced, as the company grew, Sue soon found herself Company Secretary and was central to a new accounts system, the hotel's first Investors in People award and the successful growth of the company as a whole. In 2004, Sue became General Manager of the Beaufort Park Hotel.

Her philosophy, she claims, has always been to involve staff and management in every way, encouraging them to do everything possible to reach their full potential; something that has resulted in a close partnership with Deeside College. Her hands on style stills sees her serving teas and coffees on busy days and, generally, doing what she has always done: lead by example.

"This is amazing and totally unexpected. I'm really please, both for myself but, more significantly, for the rest of my staff and management at the Beaufort Park Hotel. A team is only as strong as its weakest link and it's my team that make me look good."

Add modesty to hard work, loyalty and dedication. Proof, if any were needed, that success comes easily to those who want it most.

The Beaufort Park Hotel supports Wales Air Ambulance and is involved in raising funds for the Pound Appeal.
